Low carb diets such as the keto diet and the LCHF diet have become popular the last few days and more and more people are actually following a low carb diet. There is however a need for many people to look over their actual food intake during their low carb diet and focus on eating the right kind of food. A good way to get started is to follow a simple keto diet food plan that shows what is the basic food to eat on a low carb diet. There are of course many other ingredients and food that you can also eat on a low carb diet but if you are not sure what to eat the below list should be a good start.
The main idea with any low carb diet is that you should eat a very low amount of carbohydrates. Some diets say less than 20 grams per day, some say less that 5% of your daily energy intake should come from carbohydrates. The main idea however is the less carbohydrates you eat and the more of your energy intake that comes from fat the better results you will have. If you eat too much carbohydrates the body will use carbohydrates as the energy source while if you mainly eat according to a low carb diet your body will instead start using fat as the main energy source. This process is called ketosis and this is the state you want to reach for an optimal weight loss.
Low carb diet food to eat
For the basic type of food you should eat on your low carb diet we recommend the following vegetables. Broccoli, celery, asparagus, lettuce, spinach and cucumbers are all good vegetables to eat. Avoid all vegetables that grow under the ground and also all vegetables that taste sweet.
When it comes to meat you can basically eat all kinds of meat such as pork, beef, chicken, fish and ham. Do not remove the fat from the meat since this is a good fat that you need to have a high fat percentage in your daily intake. For dairy products you can either decide to totally skip it or to include some things like cheese, butter and mayonnaise. I usually do not eat cheese and mayonnaise but butter I use frequently to either cook in or to make some garlic butter together with my meat.
Some other things that you should always include in your low carb diet is eggs which you can eat in any form and kind. I usually eat 2-3 eggs in the morning and recommend you to do the same. Olive oil you should always try to have at home and it can also be used for cooking. Personally I am allergic to nuts so I do not eat it but most nuts are also good on a low carb diet. Be careful though since some of them contain a high percentage of carbohydrates.
